Renovating TV Icon Kerri-Anne Kennerley's Pool

Twenty years ago, we had the privilege of constructing the pool for TV icon Kerri-Anne Kennerley. As the Australian summer approached and with her recent home renovation, Kerri-Anne felt that the pool had become too large for her current lifestyle. She expressed a desire not just for a pool update, but for a new space where she could entertain and enjoy more of the backyard.

There were many obstacles to overcome. The access; the rock and piering, the close proximity to the house. The project met all the required functionality and looks fantastic.

SMITHFIELD

The spa was designed to be a hot space but there was no natural gas to the property so we designed a small raised spa as a spillover feature that would easily heat with bottled gas. On both sides of the spa, we constructed ledges – one for champagne lounging and the other for jet therapy.

KIRKHAM

The excavation was a huge job requiring up to 6m deep site cut which had to be carefully cut in layers to avoid any major landslide. This allowed for a tiered design and features at almost every level of this backyard wonderland. An enormous retaining wall was required which was built as part of the pool design and covered later in made rock. The site cut was so large that we were even able to design the pool with a long slide. The level of expert construction on this project was paramount given the size of the pool and the enormity of the site.

The pool coping was cantilevered and the entire pool was fully formed with surrounding concrete areas. We finished the project with a wet edge tank which was ideal for the slope and the natural bush backdrop.

PADSTOW HEIGHTS

Originally this pool was designed as full out of ground structure to avoid rock excavation with the small machinery. Due to neighbour privacy with the elevated structure and extensive decking proposed along with the cost of compliance to extend the boundary fencing structurally the pool was re-designed to nestle into the lower area. The pool was then completed with extended walkways and upturned wall acting as a retaining wall for the new sunken level.

This pool has featured on Instagram countless times with one very happy customer sharing all their family celebrations and milestones around their beautiful pool.

It’s now complete with landscaping and a pool side cabana for the ultimate Instagram feed for a lovely young vibrant family.

The site was complicated due to flood zone and back wall barriers had to be created for two reasons; firstly it was designed to look impressive with two sloping sides rather than a straight lined boundary looking wall and secondly to become a suspended platform created for the customers teenagers to use the area as a diving platform. This area was also used to hide pool equipment under the suspended platform.
